Raden Mas Margono Djojohadikusumo Proposed To Be A National Hero

NKRIPOST JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto’s grandfather, Raden Mas Margono Djojohadikusumo, was proposed to become a national hero by the Red and White Peduli Foundation through the “National Seminar and Book Surgery” which was held at the Defense University (IDU), Sentul, Bogor, on Saturday.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) Robben Nico said his party welcomed the proposal.
Especially after attending the national seminar and launching a book entitled “Napak Tilas Perjuangan RM Margono Djojohadikusumo in laying down the post-independence Indonesian Economic Foundation”.
“Today we listened to an extraordinary interesting discussion about the figure of the late Raden Mas Margono Djojohadikusumo, whom we know he is indeed a figure who plays a role for our nation, especially in the economic sector,” he said.
The most widely known Indonesian citizen is that he is one of the founders of the first central bank in Indonesia, which today is called Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI).

In the discussion, it was revealed that Margono did not only take part in the economic sector.
Margono took part in various important events in the history of the nation’s journey, such as being involved in the Indonesian Independence Preparation Business Investigation Agency (BPUPKI) and also representing the Round Table Conference (KMB).
According to Robben, the establishment of BNI is one of the important milestones for the nation’s journey. Moreover, in the early days of independence and the establishment of the Indonesian nation, there was no mature banking system.
So, he said, since the beginning of his independence he had strong provisions to continue to strengthen the nation’s economy. This is one of the cornerstones for proposing Margono to become a national hero.
He is grateful that his proposal to be proposed as a candidate for national hero is supported by the community. “And today the Defense University of the Republic of Indonesia is also one of those who provide support for him (Margono) to become a national hero,” he said.
Margono’s proposal to become a national hero was conveyed by the public through the Red and White Foundation Caring for the Banyumas Regency Government. Then, go up to the Central Java Provincial Government, the Ministry of Social Affairs until later it is judged by the Council of Titles, Services and Honorary Signs.
Then, the president will issue a presidential decree to determine the national hero announced ahead of Heroes’ Day.
The chairman of the National Seminar Committee, Colonel Tek Hikmat Zakky Almubaroq, said Margono Djojohadikusumo together with Mohammad Hatta and Widjojo Nitisastro contributed to the formation of national economic policy directions.
In particular, Margono designed the Indonesian banking system. This system is a strong foundation that supports the Indonesian people’s economy and the modern economy.
“Without the banking system, there will be no capital distribution, unable to maintain monetary stability, no public and investor trust and no strategic infrastructure and sectors,” he said.
The Defense University also fully supports the proposal of Margono Djojohadikusumo to become a national hero. The proposal was submitted in accordance with the rules in Law Number 20 of 2009 and Government Regulation Number 35 of 2010 which regulates procedures for awarding honors and honors for individuals who have contributed tremendously to the nation and state.
Zakky hopes that Margono Djojohadikusumo’s proposal will be quickly accepted by the Ministry of Social Affairs and can be immediately designated as a national hero.***(voi)
