Thousands of Indonesians Held Eid Al Adha Prayer Together
at the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan
On Sunday, July 10, 2022, the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan held the Eid al-Adha prayer 1443 H for the Indonesian citizens in Brunei Darussalam. The prayer started at 07.00 am and was attended by thousands of worshipers. As it was the case last year, the Indonesian Embassy held the Eid al-Adha prayer considering that the Covid-19 situation is relatively under control in Brunei Darussalam.
“Alhamdulillah, the situation this year is better, so for the second time, after the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indonesian Embassy is able to hold again Eid al-Adha prayers with the Indonesian citizens,” said the Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei, Dr. Sujatmiko.
However, as a preventive measure, the event is carried out while still implementing health protocols such as bringing one’s own prayer rug, wearing masks, and body temperature checks when entering the Indonesian Embassy complex. It is also recommended that they should have negative result from ART (Antigen Rapid Test).
Since early morning, the Indonesian people enthusiastically welcome the Eid al-Adha prayer which marks the second year of events to perform Eid prayer again, knowing that in 2020 the Eid al-Adha could not be held due to the recommendation of the Government of Brunei Darussalam in curbing the Covid-19 pandemic. For the Indonesian people in Brunei Darussalam, Eid prayer is a momentous gathering to strengthen the friendship among Indonesian citizens (WNI) and it also a way to cope with homesickness.
For this time, acting as the Imam of Eid prayer is Ust. Rustam Harahap; the Bilal is Ust. Yadir Beli; and the Khatib is Ust. Prof. Dr. Shohibuddin Laming. In his sermon, the Khatib invited jamaah to be grateful for the blessings that Allah has given, especially health, to all Indonesian people in Brunei and Indonesia. With this Eid al-Adha celebration, it is hoped that our spirit of solidarity as the Indonesian nation will be formed to help each other. The Khatib also invited jamaah to pray together for our brothers and sisters in Indonesia to continue controlling the Covid-19 cases.
In Brunei Darussalam, 10 Zulhijah 1443 H fell on July 10, 2022 according to the results of the Rukyah approved by the Chief of the Syarie Judge, Sharia Court, State Judiciary, Royal Mufti, Ministry of Religion and Ministry of Development, after observing hilal at least in five locations in Brunei. This year the people of Brunei celebrated Eid al-Adha 1443 H on 10 July 2022, which was the same as the citizens in Indonesia and several other countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.(*)
